About this property

Welcome to The Bellevue House

Located in the heart of Newport at 14 Catherine St, The Bellevue House occupies a charming Victorian-era home that offers a quiet and comfortable setting. With a 4.2 rating from 49 reviews, guests appreciate its blend of historical character and practical amenities, including free Wi-Fi, breakfast, free parking, and air-conditioning. The property is pet-friendly and smoke-free but does not feature an on-site restaurant or fitness center.

The hotel’s style reflects a mix of shore and historical elements, providing a quaint atmosphere with spacious rooms that some guests note have the typical quirks of an older building, such as slanted floors. The check-in is handled next door, which may require some adjustment, but staff are frequently highlighted for their welcoming and helpful service. Breakfast is often praised as one of the best aspects of the stay, with a variety of hot and cold options served in both indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Conveniently situated within walking distance to Newport’s main attractions like The Breakers, Cliff Walk, and the International Tennis Hall of Fame, this location is particularly well-suited for visitors who want easy access to sightseeing and recreational activities without relying heavily on transportation. Free off-street parking is a notable benefit given the challenges of parking in the area. Guests with mobility considerations should be aware that the property involves stair access to upper floors.

The Bellevue House appeals mostly to travelers looking for a quiet, well-located base that combines historic charm with essential comforts. While it is not a modern hotel with extensive amenities, reviews suggest it is a good fit for visitors who value locality, cleanliness, and friendly service over luxury. Some minor inconveniences like limited charging outlets and the lack of views are balanced by the overall positive experience and the ease of exploring Newport on foot.

Recently stayed here while in newport for the 4th of July. The hotel is in conjunction with Bellevue manor and the Inn (or so it seemed) our room was very spacious and well worth it. It was walking distance to everything and was a delight. Highly recommend and will be back in the future.

Clean, quiet, and comfortable. There are no views, however, and the check-in process is confusing. But the location is really good. Many hot spots are very nearby. The only real annoying thing was that there's no easy place to plug your phone charger in.

The decor was a perfect mix of shore and historical, the location was perfect for walking around Newport but out of the way enough to be quiet. The privacy of the House is wonderful. The buildings are old, so you have to like slanted floors, but that’s Newport. Staff was wonderful and welcoming, special thanks to Lize (sorry if I’m misspelling) and Little Gino! Also, best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had.

Great property to stay at as it’s ideally located and beautiful old home. Great breakfast included and 5 minute walk to all the wharfs! I highly recommend a stay here. I would keep in mind too this is an older home not a new hotel with the typical amenities. It’s cute and nice but not perfect

My family of four (two adults, two teens) stayed at The Bellevue House while vacationing in Newport. The rooms are no frills, but they are impeccably clean and comfortable. It's not fancy, but it feels very quaint and lovely as a Victorian-era home. The staff are accommodating and kind, and they were eager to assist and make their guests feel at home. The space was small but more than sufficient as a place to sleep. The best thing about the facility is that the location is walkable to almost anywhere on the island. We walked to Thames Street several times, walked to Cliff Walk, Tennis Hall of Fame, etc. Considering that parking and navigating the area in a car can be tricky, we were grateful that the Bellevue offered off-street, free parking and we did not need to use our car once during the entire time we were there. The breakfasts were lovely, too. There were a few hot options (pancakes or French toast, sausage, spinach quiche, etc.) and yogurt, fruit, croissants, breads, muffins, etc.). The breakfast dining area was delightful, with both indoor and outdoor patio spaces. We were on the third floor of the walk-up house; so there were two long flights of stairs up to our room. If you have impaired mobility or would have trouble with a lot of stairs, it would be worth asking for a downstairs room. Overall, it was lovely and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I’d highly recommend staying here or any of the ‘Inn on Bellevue’ houses next time you find yourself in Newport. It’s located in the perfect spot, walking distance to many amazing restaurants and shops. There’s convenient parking in the back, and check in/check out is smooth sailing. The rooms are kept clean and there was no lack of fresh towels/toilet paper/ and complimentary water bottles. To top it all off, the breakfast never disappoints! There‘s rotating options everyday, and you really get a little bit of everything on your plate. (The French toast was my fav) The seating area outside is the perfect spot to soak up some morning sun. Also, the coffee was made perfectly, and that’s a super important part of my day.

The management company owns a few properties on the block, so check-in is next door, as is breakfast. Friendly service, clean room, and a good price for the area. Breakfast was really good.

There was a slight mix up due to a third party booking site. However, Kim and the other staff went above and beyond to accommodate me and brother. They provided excellent customer service and I am very grateful. Location was perfect and the free breakfast was really good.
